Cheers! from the Duke of Bourbon
Summer is usually re-run season on television. Well, the Duke doesn't mind the occasional re-run and we hope you don't, either. We sent this email about two months ago and thought you might like a reprise in case you were too busy to read it then.
Recently, we were privileged to taste a sample of the not-yet-released Joseph Phelps 2001 Insignia. Oh, Baby! Were we impressed with this wine!
So was Robert Parker, as he awarded it 95 points. Here's what he had to say: "The 2001 Insignia (a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot) is an inky/purple-colored effort representing a return to the superb quality of such vintages as 1997. Aged in 100% new French oak, this blockbuster reveals gorgeous aromas of melted licorice, creme de cassis, liquid minerals, and hints of chocolate and spice box. The finish is long, full-bodied, opulent, and voluptuous. Considerable tannin is largely concealed by the lavish richness, extract, and glycerin. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020+.
The bulk of the fruit for the Insignia cuvee comes from vineyards on Manley Lane as well as the Stags Leap area. All the Petit Verdot and Malbec utilized is from the vineyard adjacent to the winery. The Insignia cuvee has been one of Napa's great Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines since its inception in 1974."
In this case, Parker may be guilty of understatement. This is, simply put, a wine without flaws. The Duke is truly pleased to offer it on "futures" for delivery in September of 2004. The Duke's "futures" price is $95.00 per bottle. Or save an additional 5% by buying a 6-pack for $539.94. A 20% deposit will secure your order, with the balance due upon delivery of the wine. We also have magnums available at $199.00 each. A 20% deposit is all that is required for them as well.
Call the Duke today so that you won't miss out on a chance to acquire this superb wine from a great vintage!!
