Silver Oak (the Alexander Valley winery is pictured) has that soft, attractive style that makes the wine so delicious, easy to drink and accessible upon release. To quote winemaker Daniel Baron, "The 2000 Silver Oak Alexander Valley is a classic, rich Cabernet Sauvignon with a ruby-red color and an expressive nose of cassis, blueberries, blackberries, soy sauce and vanilla. It is luscious and full-bodied on the palate and has a long finish of ripe berry fruit, vanilla and a hint of dill. It will continue to improve to 2018, given proper cellaring." Twomey Cellars, also owned by the Silver Oak family, released their 2001 Merlot to us the same day. This terrific wine in the Silver Oak tradition of using American oak barrels, boasts a 90-point rating from Robert Parker. To quote him, ". . . Tasting like California's version of a top-notch Pomerol, it should shed its tannin in 2-3 years, and drink well for 12+." The Duke will continue to offer these wines for $59.50 per bottle.
