We here at the Duke have tasted so many outstanding Spanish wines lately that we are even beginning to say things like "Buenos Dias." The Rioja beauty we have for you today is absolutely delicious. When we tasted Sierra Cantabria 2001 Crianza, we found a round, full wine with flavors of plum, currant, pepper and spice. This classy effort from Rioja is really supple and easy to drink!

We then consulted the accumulated works of our favorite wine writer, Robert Parker, and found that he had awarded it 91 points. He commented, "I have served friends the brilliant 2001 Crianza (98% Tempranillo and 2% Graciano) just to prove what great wine can be purchased even with a weak dollar. It is a complex, elegant, deep ruby/purple-tinged offering boasting a sweet nose of lead pencil shavings, white chocolate, blackberries, and cherries. Medium-bodied with supple tannin as well as admirable structure, definition, and ripeness, it can be enjoyed now and over the next 5-8 years."
