Cooperative Established

(Buy Now/Pay Later)

Located in Kinston, North Carolina, a cigar and tobacco cooperative has been established. The cooperative was formed to create a one stop shopping center for retailers and distributors of manufacturers goods said Cheryl Turner, business manager.

The concept behind the idea is very simple, to offer retailers high quality goods and services at the lowest possible prices all backed by a " Give the Customer what they want Policy." The cooperative represents manufacturers in the sale of their goods and services; wholesale only. Manufacturers guarantee The Cooperative their lowest wholesale prices so The Cooperative can offer the lowest wholesale and distributor prices to the retailers. In return, the cooperative receives a commission on all products sold. Customers simply place a call to the cooperative on the toll-free line or use the 24 hour fax line and order what they want.

The Cooperative will offer many services for both manufacturers and retailers. Among them will include vehicles to market products directly to 35,000 plus retailers - every two months through a 4/color buyers guide, guaranteed payments to manufacturers on a monthly basis, increased buying power for national and international purchases of advertisements in affiliated magazines and increased promotional opportunities for their products through trade shows exhibits and attendance. Backed by a multi-million dollar investment, The Cooperative will offer retailers an opportunity to Buy Now/Pay Later terms, up to 60 days later. What this means is the retailer can now purchase a product and offer it for sell to customers for up to 2 months and never have one dime invested during that time. Retailers that prefer to pay cash will receive a 10% cash discount at time of sale. The only stipulation to participate in the Buy Now/Pay Later Plan is a valid credit card.

Some of the products now offered are premium handmade cigars from the Dominican Republic (boxes and bundles), Commercial printing of cigar bands (short runs (25+), or large quantities) and consultants representing every segment of the tobacco business. A telemarketing service will be added later with up to 16 marketers contacting customers daily. Name brand products and new companies are being added.

A 3000 square foot building, completely humidified, has been built to store clients cigars. Multi-phone lines are available to our staff who are now being trained to assist customers. The modern structure will allow for products to be shipped the same day if ordered by 2 PM. Already plans are underway to build a 100,000 square foot facility in the coming year.

Currently The Cooperative has about $1 million dollars worth of inventory on hand and sales are expected to begin in October.

Turner said what makes The Cooperative so great is the fact it will serve everybody that wants to promote their products, save money, plus offer customers a one stop shopping-center, complete with easygoing terms. Whether you are a billion dollar corporation or a fine restaurant, everyone will benefit.

Cigar Vaults by Mykl

Michael Hulley, world renowned artist and a cigar connoisseur from Canada, has created Harvest #001. A beautiful humidor carved out of walnut wood, designed like four tobacco leaves, which holds approximately 150 cigars. A carved wooden cigar serves as the lid prop.

According to Michael, his inspiration came from "in honor of the leaf." Friends of Tobacco discovered Michael and his magnificent creations at the RTDA trade this summer. Needless to say, Michael is one of the most talented professionals in his field by being able to create several masterpieces through inspirational creativity. While all of Michael's pieces are creative wonders, Friends of Tobacco's favorite piece is Harvest #001 "in honor of the leaf."

Michael will highlight his humidors at the Friends of Tobacco Congressional Reception in Washington, DC on October 22, 1997.

For more information and a brochure on Michael's humidors, contact him at Mykl Cigar Vaults, 5 Evelyn Circle, St. Catherine's, Ontario, Canada, L2M 7H4 or Phone: 905/646-5088, Fax: 416/240-8479.
