Dear Friends of Tobacco:
1999 will be a critical year for tobacco because of several issues. The ongoing tobacco settlemants are in the courts and the anti-tobacco movement is in full force. Friends of Tobacco needs your immediate support to continue our efforts.
The Board of Directors of Friends of Tobacco has directed me to incorporate the following changes for 1999 to have a greater impact on our mission. Please note the following changes as they will affect everyone:
- All memberships will be renewed in January. (Except those who joined or renewed no earlier than October 1998.) Anyone not renewed by the end of January will be deleted from the mailing list. The reason for these changes are as follows:
- Only paid members can receive invitations, newsletters and action alerts. We will increase the amount of information our members need to receive in order to have a greater impact on the problems facing the tobacco industry. In order to achieve this goal, we have no other choice than to eliminate the mailings to those who have not paid their dues. This is the only fair way to make sure our members can get the information that they need.
- Membership dues will only be used to keep members informed on issues that affect them.
- Because of budget considerations, we will have to discontinue any courtesy mailings or carryover memberships.
- Sponsorships and donations will be used for specific events as designated and for operating costs.
These changes are minor but do have an impact on who will receive information in 1999. We also ask for your help in encouraging others to join. All members are asked to sign up at least one new member and more if possible.
Following this letter is a membership application that can be printed off, filled out and mailed to us. Please do so and join today. If you would like to serve on any Friends of Tobacco committees for 1999, please let us know.
Exciting news will be forthcoming to our membership and we look forward to being able to get this information to you. Let's continue to work together to support tobacco and freedom. If we don't care -- who will? Please mail your application today. Thank you.
