Friends of Tobacco Golf Tournament Held
GREENVILLE, NC - Friends of Tobacco recently held their 3rd Annual Friends of Tobacco Golf Tournament recently at the Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Greenville, NC. 47 companies were represented with 126 golfers participating.
The team representing Friends of Tobacco, won the tournament with a Low Gross score of 57. The players were: Donald Kennedy (Nationwide Insurance), Mark Thigpen (Thigpen Farms), Terry Hardison (Richland Farms)and The Honorable Richard Moore; Secretary of NC Public Safety and Crime Control. Standard Commercial Tobacco Company won low net with a score of 58. Players included Tommy Howell, Jim Davidson, Bootsie Morris, and Wayne Crawford. They tied with Jenni K Jewelry (last years winners) who also came in with a low Net Score of 58. Standard Commercial won the tie breaker. C.J. Hammer playing with Jenni K Jewelry walked away with 2 trophies, the Longest Drive and the Best Woman's Trophy.
Prizes included golf bags, golf clubs, weekend trip to Hilton Head Island, humidors, premium handmade cigars and numerous chances to win money. Entry fee also included three meals, evening entertainment, reception and awards banquet. This years awards banquet also included a silent auction featuring items such as paintings, handmade tobacco barns, humidors and much more. This event has grown to be the single largest golf event that allows all friends of tobacco to gather and help raise money for the organization. The 1999 golf event raised $12,340.00.
