Head down to Sandy Hook without highway traffic
NEW YORK--NY Waterway and BACKFLIPS swim wear presented a fashion show of BACKFLIPS '99 bathing suit lines at the West 38th Street Ferry Terminal today to mark the start of weekend ferry service to the beach at Sandy Hook, NJ, starting Saturday, June 19.
At the World Financial Center in Battery Park City, 9:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.;
At West 3 8th Street and 12th Avenue, 9 a.m. and 11:30a.m.;
Liberty Landing in Jersey City, 9:15 a.m. and 11:45 a.m.
New Jersey passengers also can buy Sandy Hook tickets in Hoboken or Jersey City's Colgate Dock and get a free roundtrip ticket on the commuter ferry to the World Financial Center, or buy Sandy Hook tickets at Port Imperial in Weehawken and get a free round-trip commuter ferry ticket to West 38th Street.
The ferry sails to the Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook where a shuttle bus takes passengers to all beaches for sunbathing, fishing, hiking and bird-watching. Sandy Hook features seven miles of white sand beaches, Fort Hancock's historic buildings and the oldest operating lighthouse in the U.S.
The round-trip cost is:
- $25 for adults;
- $12.50 for children 12 and under;
- Children under 3 ride free.
- Food and beverages are available for purchase on the Sandy Hook boat.
- Reservations are recommended and the Sandy Hook service will not run in inclement weather.
Fort Hancock Cruises
At Sandy Hook's For Hancock, NY Waterway also offers a relaxing one hour bay cruise, with departures at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
The separate one hour bay cruise is $10 for adults.
